Chris’s Story

At 8 years of age Chris found his calling. It began with projects around the house which led to summers spent on job sites working along side his father. At age 20 Spohn Ranch Skate Parks came to Chris’s hometown of Naples, FL and he began volunteering his skills. Soon after, Chris was hired by Spohn Ranch to build custom skate parks utilizing concrete, wood and metal. He had a great life traveling around the U.S. creating parks and building ramps. His travels led him to South Africa to lead a community to help rebuild their ramps for a big event. In 2013, Chris landed in West Virginia. While in WV, Chris decided to plant his feet and begin his work of home renovation and design. In 2018, Chris relocated to South Carolina to be closer to family. Here he found home working for Habitat for Humanity as their project coordinator for 5-1/2 years. Currently, Chris is project superintendent for Focus Construction in Clemson, SC.

In his spare time, he started creating custom pieces for friends and family- tables, mantle pieces, picture frames and even exploring CNC machine carving. Chris’s creativity stems from his travels- getting to know people, varying landscapes and building materials. Friends of friends began asking Chris to create something for their homes and thus began CMast Designs. When getting a design from Chris, each piece of furniture, frame or carving is unique and one-of-a-kind. Chris likes to leave little imperfections or little bits of wood grain to touch so we can remember your piece of art is part of nature.

Chris literally speaks to the trees. As he works in his shop he lets each piece of wood let him know when it’s time to be brought back to life. “Looking at a piece of wood that’s heading for the burn pile and knowing I can bring something back to life, not everyone can do that. and that feels incredibly rewarding.” Chris enjoys the idea that his pieces leave a legacy behind - something that will still be here long after we are gone.

Featured in the photo is Chris’s sidekick and helper, Maggie. No project is complete without her stamp of approval.
